Presentation 5th February: Portraiture My Way

Last night we had a very comprehensive presentation by our member Jon Higlett titled “Portraiture My Way”  in which Jon outlined the ideas behind preparing and setting up for a portraiture shoot as well as a number of practical suggestions for working with your model or sitter.  The evening was capped off with a demonstration of simple and inexpensive lighting techniques and a live shoot with Kristen acting as a model.

One of the strengths of Lane Cove is not only our philosophy of sharing knowledge but also drawing upon the skills and experience of our membership.  Jon has a lot of experience with model shoots and was able to effectively share his knowledge with our audience, another example of the way our group sets us apart from clubs that maintain a competitive atmosphere that ultimately means that “secrets” are not shared amongst the wider membership.

Our next evening is an evaluation night, and Robert Shaverien has volunteered to act as facilitator.  The meeting after next is our portraiture challenge and it will be interesting to se how our members respond to the challenge.
