Photography My Way 29th October

Last night we were treated to a wide range of short presentations from our members in our annual “Photography My Way” session.

We were treated to a philosophical discussion of “Studium” and “Punctum” with Kari Price, a trip to the outback for astrophotography to capture the milky way with Andrew Munkman, then back to the big smoke (in more ways than one) with Jon van Daal’s presentation on remote control photography that took in everything from rock concerts to drag racing.

After Jon’s presentation we were then treated to a short trip through modern art with Diane McKenzie’s presentation on “Why your 5 year old couldn’t have done that”.  That left us with plenty of food for thought, especially the discussion about the installation that involved turning lights on and off!

Finally, I made a short presentation on the pleasure and pain of using a drone as a photographic tool.  To finish the night, we celebrated the birthday of our exceptional vice president, Jim Crew with a tiny cake and a candle.  Fortunately there were lots of cupcakes to share amongst the members.

Our next meeting is another evaluation night followed on November 26th by the AGM.  I ask that all members consider who they would like to fill the positions for next year, especially the Secretary position that will be vacant once David Edmonds stands down after many years of service to the club.  The secretary position can be split into some smaller activities to make it easier to take on into 2027.  We welcome new members onto the committee that can contribute towards the program for 2027 and beyond.

Michael Smyth, President.
