Your Questions Answered

Last Thursday we opened the floor to members to raise questions about any creative or technical problems or curiosities they may have had. Our resident abstract photographer, Gerald Curtin, kindly gave a demo of his image-making process using Affinity Photo, which inspired us all to spend more time experimenting with colour, shapes and blend modes. Gerald’s images have always impressed and piqued our curiosity as to how he makes them, so it was great to hear from him again. Be sure to check out Gerald’s work on his brand new website https://curtinabstracts.com.au.

Gerald was followed by Brian Menzies and David Lewinsohn who shared two different approaches to photographing a blood moon. From researching locations to line the rising moon up perfectly with landscape elements, to shooting with composites in mind, we’re looking forward to seeing some creative shots from our members of last night’s lunar spectacle.

We also heard tips on how to shoot reflections on water, uses for luminosity in processing, whether in-camera digital filters have any benefit, how to dodge and burn in Photoshop using a 50% grey layer and a few other diversions along the way. Overall, a varied evening with plenty of engaging and involved discussion. Many thanks to members who submitted questions and all those were called upon respond. Your insight and input is much appreciated.
